Hello everyone;
My dev platform: Win 7 Pro - 64bits / Qt5.1.1 / msvc2012
My deployement platform: Win 7 Pro - 64bits / Touch screen
When deploying on the production environment, and including all dlls and platform folder
(QT5Core.dll,..., qwt.dll, msvcp110.dll, msvcr110.dll, icu*.dll, libEGL.dll, libGLEv2.dll in the same folder as the executable)
(platforms/qwindows.dll, platforms/qminimal.dll)
But when launching, I get the error
What I did is totally start over the Qt installation, 2 times:
After compiling my project and qwt with the newly installed, I still couldn't manage to make my application work on the production computer (although it works perfectly on the dev computer)
I looked at Dependency Walker, and I'm now installing a Virtual Machine to have a clean deployement environment;
I also tried to copy the entire Qt5 root folder on the deployement environment and setting the %PATH% env variable to the Qt5 lib, plugins and bin folder.
I really am out of ideas, and I thank you for having read this and trying to help me.
Nov 3, 2017 - This application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin 'windows' in '. Available platform plugins are: minimal,.
First of all, I tried all the solution foudn in this forum and internet before posting.My dev platform: Win 7 Pro - 64bits / Qt5.1.1 / msvc2012
My deployement platform: Win 7 Pro - 64bits / Touch screen

But when launching, I get the error
This application failed to start because it could not find or lload the Qt platform plugin 'windows'
Reinstalling the application may fix this problem
Some things to note:Reinstalling the application may fix this problem
- This message doesn't come in a message box, but straight in a terminal (meaning if double click the exe, a console editor opens and closes right away)
- The message doesn't have a line 'There are no available platforms' (like in others similar issues on the Internet)
- I can launch a small Qt gui application without this error.
- I can launch a small Qwt gui application without this error.
What I did is totally start over the Qt installation, 2 times:
- Once with compiling myself (configure -developer-build -opensource -opengl desktop -nomake examples -nomake tests)
- Once with the installer (this time without openGL)
After compiling my project and qwt with the newly installed, I still couldn't manage to make my application work on the production computer (although it works perfectly on the dev computer)

this application failed to start because no qt platform plugin could be initialized (8)
I have looked through all of the questions that appear to be related on stack overflow, and none of the solutions seem to help me.
I am building a Qt application with this setup:
- Windows 7 Professional x64
- Visual Studio 2012
- Qt 5.2.0 built with
configure -developer-build -debug-and-release -opensource -nomake examples -nomake tests -platform win32-msvc2012 -no-opengl
- Project uses QtSingleApplication (qt-solutions)
- Application is a 32 bit application
- qmake run with the following: -makefile -spec win32-msvc2012
- .pri uses
QMAKE_CXX += /D_USING_V110_SDK71_
I can build and run my program fine on my development machine (noted above); I can also install and run the package from Program Files directory on dev machine.
When I install and run on a Windows Vista machine (multiple machines)
- VC++ redist 2012 11.0.61030.0 installed
- VC++ redist 2010 10.0.40219 installed
- plus 2005, 2008 versions of redist
(also fails on a clean install of Windows 7)
I get:
Application failed to start because it could not find or load the QT platform plugin 'windows'
So I followed the instructions and added a .platforms/ directory, and added qwindows.dll (also added qminimal.dll and qoffscreen.dll); I also added libEGL.dll, libGLESv2.dll (even though I shouldn't need them I don't think)
Once I added qoffscreen.dll I now get the additional message:
Available platform plugins are: offscreen
If I run through Dependency Walker I get this error listed:
and then further down get the:
Any ideas how to fix this dll issue?
I had the same error with MinGW version of Qt (not static): 'Failed to load platform plugin windows'.
The solution for me was to add the DLLs
libEGL.dll
and libEGLd.dll
